The history of the Folkingestraat

The Folkingestraat used to be the beating heart of the Jewish neighbourhood. Until World War II, 191 Jews lived in this street alone. The last part of Folkingestraat also used to be called the Jodenstraatje. After the war, the street lost its Jewish character and its name. It is now the Folkingestraat, but the memories will always remain. You can still visit the synagogue at the end of the street, near the Zuiderdiep.
